Time: 16:00 to 18:00 (GMT +3:30)
Venue: IRAS Conference Center, Tehran, Iran

Jahangir Karami, Head of Russian Department, Faculty of World Studies, University of Tehran; Senior Fellow, IRAS
Mahmoud Shoori, Senior Fellow, IRAS
In this event, Vladimir Yakunin said:
"We fully support what Mr. Putin stated about the integration in great Eurasia. He mentioned that any progress in great Eurasia is the result of increasing cultural, value, economic and political integration. But what is the danger threatening us? As we cannot tell that the origin of terrorism is a particular country or culture, we cannot also say that only the US can be the origin of universal liberalism, or it originates from the US. Universal liberalism belongs to the whole world. So we cannot predict in today’s world that is still evolving and changing, where we would face any danger. The only way to defend and protect ourselves is to make the integration in great Eurasia and also its talks happen. There is no other way. In this context, we are ready to cooperate with you. We do not claim to know everything, and we do not have the upper hand in this situation. But it seems that some of our predictions have come true, and they are indeed logical and fair."
In this event, Jahangir Karami also said:
"We are witnessing the important role of regions and regional actors and the cohesion between the regions. But another scenario is that at the same time, we are also witnessing a fundamental transformation of the international system taking place; a gradual decline in the US power, the gradual emergence of China, and naturally the increased role of regional powers. In such circumstances, we should see what will be the future of the Middle East, and also what opportunities and threats are facing Iran and Russia in the region. In the last three decades, there has been cooperation between Iran and Russia on various issues, the last example of which is the cooperation between them for maintaining the Syrian regime. Their cooperation, especially in the case of Syria, like the past cooperation in the fight against the Taliban, has a fundamental problem. First, this cooperation is negative. In fact, it is more done to deal with the threats and problems, and there is no positive aspect in this cooperation. So their cooperation is very good and effective as far as it is related to the fields of military, security and intelligence, but because of the lack of political prestige and any plan for emergencies, the two states face problems emerging in their views immediately after cooperating on the military field."
